Day 3 of Pattern Play

Day 3 of class was Hard to Use and Bold Patterns.  Another great day of fabulous tips! I modeled my card after Debby Hughes card and video.

The die was a bit large, but all in all, I liked the way this turned out.

Day 2 of Pattern Play

Day 2 of Pattern Play was Patterned Paper and Stamping.  Jennifer shared great techniques! This was tricky for me though because I don't have a background stamp that has solid images with a lot of negative space.  So, I put together some stamps from Flower Friend from Simon Says Stamp and here is what I came up with:

It was really challenging to stamp the image repeatedly because you can't see where you stamping when using VersaMark ink! I really like the technique but will have to look into buying a background stamp like the one Jennifer used in class.

Day 1 of Pattern Play

I finally got around today to doing my "homework" for this online card class.  Between parent conferences and battling the flu this week, I spent a lot of time on the couch catching up with the Biggest Loser.  :)

Anyway, day 1 was "Basic Tips."  Kristina Werner shared her formula of "large/med + small + 'solid'".  I never would of thought of using a "formula" to match up pattern paper together so this is a great tip I learned.  I also decided to use the Simon Says Stamp March card kit which I hadn't gotten around to playing around with either, and also some stamps from Papertrey Ink.  Here is what I created:

I modeled my cards after Kristina's cards and decided to create some Mother's Day cards since that is right around the corner.

Card on the right: Kristina had a tri-circle die she used to create three windows - I do not have that die so I opted for punching three circles and stamping directly on those and adhering with 3-dimensional adhesive.  I felt it needed a pop of color so I added the mustard washi tape over the "solid" pattern paper I had on the card and added the heart to match.  Now that I'm seeing a picture of it, I think I will change the pattern circle on the bottom to a pattern that will fill up the circle better.

Pattern Play- Online Card Class

Monday starts a new online card class over at www.onlinecardclasses.com! The class is called PATTERN PLAY and will be about mixing and matching pattern paper in our cards. I am super excited about this class as I LOVE pattern paper.  I tend to gravitate to using great paper in my cards more so than using stamping techniques so I am looking forward to some great ideas to add to my card making.

We can start adding photos of our work to their pre-gallery: here are a few of my cards using patterned paper:

Looking forward to next week!

Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Choose a Sketch

Okay - my first Simon Says Stamp Challenge!

You can find out info here about the challenge.

This weeks challenge is to:
CHOOSE A SKETCH !

Dawny designed the following sketches for us to choose from:

Sketch 1
OR
Sketch 2

Here is what I came up with using sketch #1:

I first started out trying to focus on a color combination, and then as I dug through paper to use, ended up matching paper and colors based off the flower pattern paper.  This was the first time I used the Fresh Daisies craft die and I see myself going to it often.  It adds a great touch.  I love it.

Book and Bookmark Swap

Jen and Kellee over at www.teachmentortexts.com put together a Book and Bookmark swap which was so much fun!

Stacey sent me a fabulous book and bookmark AND some rubber stamps! (To add to my ever growing collection) So very generous! I read Unspoken before and it's a beautiful story. I'm so happy to have this now in my personal collection.

AND IT'S SIGNED! Squee!

Thank you so much to Jen and Kellee for putting this together!!!

Thank you to the hosts of this Monday meme! Jen and Kellee over at www.teachmentortexts.com and Sheila over at http://bookjourney.wordpress.com/

It's been a slow start to reading this month.  March is always busy for so many of us.  But with report cards completed now and my sister-in-law's baby shower done, I will have a little more time to read.  Still need to accomplish our Outdoor Science School meeting and parent conferences this  month.

Here is what I read the past week and a half:

Loved the artwork in this book.
