This was a slow reading week for me (and it has been slow for me for a while now-ugh). I am so looking forward to summer vacation (3 weeks away for me) to participate in the annual summer Book-a-Day Challenge. Read Donalyn Miller's post over at the Nerdy Book Club blog for more information about the challenge.
I finished two books this past week. The first:
I loved this book! This was also my choice for my book club this month, and I look forward to our conversation about it.
I also read this picture book:
I learned some interesting facts about Babe Ruth reading this one! I am a huge fan of Matt Tavares' work. I read this aloud to my students as well and several of my baseball fanatics reread it themselves several times.
I started:
A couple of books I have on deck that I borrowed from the library:

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a great week of reading!
I really liked Stupid Fast, and am amazed that Ruth played his last game so long ago, and yet students still know who he is!
ReplyDeleteSo far it has been a slow start for me. I know many Twitter folks have enjoyed it so I am hoping I will become more engaged with it. :)
DeleteI have been thinking about using Between Shades of Gray with my book club. I currently have one with 7-8th graders and in the fall I will be starting one with high school students. I just can't decide which group to use this one with. Leaning towards HS. Have a great reading week! http://wp.me/pzUn5-1xN
ReplyDeleteI think using this book with a group of students would be so powerful! Good luck with the bookclub! :)
DeleteI'm reading Ruth Sepetys's 2nd novel right now. Liking it quite a bit, so will probably read the 1st sometime this summer. I'm also in the middle of Stupid Fast... liking it, not loving it. Also a slow reading week (or couple!) for me. I thought it was end-of-the-semester busy, but I was reading more BEFORE school let out for the summer! Yikes! I'm planning to participate in #bookaday too. Enjoy your reading week!
ReplyDeleteI'm not loving Stupid Fast either - I am liking it though. I know quite a few folks have enjoyed it, so I am sure it will be a good read. :)
DeleteI absolutely love Between Shades of Gray! I used the first line/page as an example for hooks this year.
ReplyDeleteStupid Fast is so great...you will love poor Felton! The 3rd book (I'm With Stupid) just came out, but I still haven't read Nothing Special (book 2).
I book talked Deadline and had a couple of students read that this year. Such a great book.
Yes! Between Shades of Gray has a great hook - I marked quite a few pages because there were so many great lines throughout. I haven't read any novels yet by Chris Crutcher, and I hear they are great for boys - yes? I need more recommendations for my boys. :)
