Hello, 2013!

2012 is in the rearview mirror.  It was a roller coaster year for me; my family was hit by the financial hardships that many others faced and are still facing, but I am thankful that we were able to climb out of that dip.  But I love the new year - fresh starts, new beginnings, starting over, however you want to look at it.  I was out of town for New Year's Eve and had some time to reflect away from the distractions that being at home can bring and thought about what I want the year 2013 to look like for me.

There are numerous things that I would love to happen in 2013 both personally and for my reading life.  I decided my book goal for 2013 to be 301 books. This is an average of six books per week. To support and encourage my book gap challenges and reading goals I will be participating in:
Alyson Beecher over at Kid Lit Frenzy will again be hosting the Non-Fiction Picture Book challenge.  Please head to her blog to read the details about this challenge.   You can also follow the Non-Fiction Picture Book challenge on Twitter or join in using the hashtag #nfbp2013.

Personally, just like many others, I need to get in shape. And have a baby.  Enough said.  :)

For my card making, I would like to work on stamping and coloring techniques.  I'm excited about an upcoming online card making class that I will be learning from, which you can find info about that here.  I'm enjoying learning how to use Inktense Watercolor pencils, but I still need practice.

As much as I LOVE the time off to read, write, and reflect and spend time with family, I am looking forward to heading back to school on Monday to see my students and set reading goals and make reading plans with them.  I read an awesome post this morning by Kate Roberts and Maggie Roberts over at their blog and learned some great tips.  I will be trying some of those ideas to help facilitate my students' planning of their goals.

So what will you be working on this 2013? I invite you to share your goals and plans by commenting below or adding a link to your blog.  Cheers to you and yours and may you have a blessed 2013!
