It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 1.21.13

Thank you to the hosts of this Monday meme!

It was a bit of a slow week for me and reading.  Lot's of different things filled my days last week, but this week isn't as packed so I'm hoping to read more than last week.

I finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn last week and if you are someone who wants to read a good adult novel every now and then, then this is one to pick up. It is a page turner!  Read this one with someone because there will be LOTS to discuss.  Our book club had a VERY lively discussion.

The following are the highlights of my picture book stack that I read today:

Odd Dog by Claudia Boldt: This was a charming story about a dog named Peanut who is in love with apples and NOT bones. His apple tree sits along side the fence his neighbor and he shares, and Peanut is certain that his neighbor is eyeing his apples and wants to steal them. But Peanut is surprised one day by his neighbors actions. A great story of friendship and being careful about the judgements one can make.

In the Sea by David Elliott and illustrated by Holly Meade: a great collection of short poems celebrating ocean animal life.  Accessible for younger readers and also great use of figurative language and poetic devices.

Bill the Boy Wonder by Marc Tyler Nobleman, illustrated by Ty Templeton tells the true story of Bill Finger who was the co-creator of Batman but did not get any recognition for this until late in his career.  There are 6 pages of author's notes at the end and an extensive bibliography.
I am currently reading:

I have several on deck and not sure yet what I will read next after finishing Navigating Early:

  1. I've heard great things about Gone Girl! I read Lions of Little Rock this summer, and it is one of my favorites. Enjoy!
