This week I finished:
Like for many others, this was a challenging book to get into. I was very confused at the beginning and found myself rereading many parts and looking up quite a number of words (didn't understand a lot of the plane jargon). Reading this novel was a good reminder for me of what it's like to be challenged as a reader. I didn't personally love the book, but I do think it is a fantastically written story and I'm glad that I stuck with it.
The following are a few picture books I read that I would recommend.
Seed by Seed focused more on who Johnny Chapman was as a person so this was a refreshing read. I think this is a must have for all classrooms and libraries.
The World's Greatest Lion was an interesting story that I think kids
will love, but I felt it needed an author's note at the end.
I'm currently listening to (I read it last year, but was interested in the audio book since it won the Odyssey Award):
I'm reading:

On deck I have:
This is good series to recommend to readers who are looking for a paranormal romance without vampires or wolves.
I added this book to my TBR pile:
Happy reading this week! Thanks for stopping by!
I recently finished Finale. I thought it was a strong ending to a series that surprised me (sucked me right in). Enjoy! http://wp.me/pzUn5-1qI
ReplyDeleteGood to hear about Finale! I've been looking forward to reading it. :) I loved the series from the get go.
DeleteI have Code Name Verity in my Scholastic order that will be coming in this week. I appreciate all the posts that have warned me about the challenge of the book. It is good to know that it will be a book worth sticking with. I need to re-read the first two books in the Hush, Hush series so that I can refresh my memory before finishing the series. I really enjoyed those books but then forgot about them. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteRereading books in a series before I read the next one is not something I do... :/ and sometimes I do find myself a bit confused here and there. I need to work on that. :)
DeleteI read Silent Star this week too and loved it! What a great find!
ReplyDeleteI also read and listened to TFiOS because I loved it THAT much. :)
I'm thinking about purchasing the audio for TFiOS. It's awesome! :) (currently just borrowing it from the library)
DeleteOh, and how could I forget to mention CODE NAME VERITY. I agree with you that it was a confusing book and because of that, I connected very little with the characters. While everyone else was bawling their eyes out, mine remained dry through the entire book.
ReplyDeleteI didn't connect much with the characters either, and I had dry eyes too. :/
DeleteI read TFiOS last year, but I would love to listen to the audio as well!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Code Name Verity, and it seems friends who have read it recently (including you and Beth) haven't raved about it as much as others. Sherry didn't even finish. :-\
I think CODE NAME VERITY is going to be a hit or miss with people. My book club picked it for this month and honestly I don't think I would have finished it otherwise...
DeleteThe audio for TFiOS is awesome! I am completely wrapped up in it (not a good thing when driving though!) :)
