It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 2.25.13

Be sure to visit Jen and Kellee over at www.teachmentortexts.com and Sheila over at http://bookjourney.wordpress.com/ the hosts of this Monday meme!

This week I finished:

Like for many others, this was a challenging book to get into.  I was very confused at the beginning and found myself rereading many parts and looking up quite a number of words (didn't understand a lot of the plane jargon).  Reading this novel was a good reminder for me of what it's like to be challenged as a reader.  I didn't personally love the book, but I do think it is a fantastically written story and I'm glad that I stuck with it.

The following are a few picture books I read that I would recommend.
Seed by Seed focused more on who Johnny Chapman was as a person so this was a refreshing read. I think this is a must have for all classrooms and libraries.
The World's Greatest Lion was an interesting story that I think kids will love, but I felt it needed an author's note at the end.

I loved this picture book biography! I am partial to baseball stories, but I thought this was such a fascinating story! I loved the artwork too.

I'm currently listening to (I read it last year, but was interested in the audio book since it won the Odyssey Award):

I'm reading:

On deck I have:

This is good series to recommend to readers who are looking for a paranormal romance without vampires or wolves.
I added this book to my TBR pile:

Happy reading this week! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I recently finished Finale. I thought it was a strong ending to a series that surprised me (sucked me right in). Enjoy! http://wp.me/pzUn5-1qI

  2. I have Code Name Verity in my Scholastic order that will be coming in this week. I appreciate all the posts that have warned me about the challenge of the book. It is good to know that it will be a book worth sticking with. I need to re-read the first two books in the Hush, Hush series so that I can refresh my memory before finishing the series. I really enjoyed those books but then forgot about them. Happy Reading!

    1. Rereading books in a series before I read the next one is not something I do... :/ and sometimes I do find myself a bit confused here and there. I need to work on that. :)

  4. Oh, and how could I forget to mention CODE NAME VERITY. I agree with you that it was a confusing book and because of that, I connected very little with the characters. While everyone else was bawling their eyes out, mine remained dry through the entire book.

    1. I didn't connect much with the characters either, and I had dry eyes too. :/

  5. I read TFiOS last year, but I would love to listen to the audio as well!
I haven't read Code Name Verity, and it seems friends who have read it recently (including you and Beth) haven't raved about it as much as others. Sherry didn't even finish. :-\

    1. I think CODE NAME VERITY is going to be a hit or miss with people. My book club picked it for this month and honestly I don't think I would have finished it otherwise...

The audio for TFiOS is awesome! I am completely wrapped up in it (not a good thing when driving though!) :)
